Jennifer Rambala is a mom to 2 children who looked for a more natural way to treat her families medical and behavioral aliments. It changed her family for the better so much, so is now sharing her experiences in hopes to help other families, by sharing education on natural alternatives. She did not t have the tools of essential oils and other support with her oldest son and so seeing the difference with younger daughter, which has inspired her to help other moms and link arms to show them there are ways to make things easier. Essential Oils have a variety of uses for everyday life. From using topically for different elements, diffusing for health benefits and using in household products to ditch using chemicals found in many cleaning products in your home. I have been using essential oils in my everyday life since my oldest daughter was born. In the wintertime you will find me diffusing a “germ away” blend I create and in the summer making my own bug repellent from essential oils. I had a chance to chat with Jennifer Rambala, a mom of 2, daily essential oil user and doTERRA rep. We talked about how using a more natural approach to her and her family had a positive outcome on their health. How did you 1st find out about using essential oils? I had started using essential oils for my anxiety. Throughout college I was on adderal and antidepressants and when I became pregnant i decided to go off. Once I had my children I made a decision of not wanting to go back on and so i was on the lookout for something natural I could do. A friend had told me about essential oils, and of course the skeptic in me disregarded it at first. Once she came to my house and showed me and also told me about the health benefits I decided that I wanted to learn more. What has the biggest change to your families life by adding oils? The biggest change for our family has been dealing with ailments naturally and truly seeing a difference. For example, using specific oils in a diffuser when my daughter was at an age she couldn’t blow her nose we used oils to support respiratory function and over a period of nap time I would see the difference in the mucus loosening up. The other major benefit has been immune support. Once you have two kids you deal with the one kid getting sick and trying to prevent the other from getting sick. I have noticed that before oils the congestion and colds would last at least a week to two weeks. Now, with the oils we deal with a quick 3-5 day ordeal and tackle it all using natural solutions! What do you routinely use? I routinely use oils for focus- a blend my doterra called Intune has made a major difference in the brain fog we call (mom brain) and has tremendously helped the mental clarity. For my children I use immune boosting oils and also doterra vitamins, probiotics, that are crucial for their growth and development. The oils we use for the kids are dependent on what we are going through. My daughter who is 2 ½ tends to go for the doTERRA balance blend and it completely calms her down. There are oils we use for tantrums too!. I think the important part of all of this is to understand that every child is different and so what may work for us may be completely different for another family. That is why I love working with other moms to find a solution that works for their child. What would you recommend to have on hand for families just starting out? For starting out I think being connected to a community of people is super important when trying to learn about natural solutions. With doTERRA the community support is there which to me was the most important thing because to be completely honest, when I started I had NO CLUE what I was doing! But I knew that it was okay because I had support and other moms to ask my questions to in order to find a solution. I personally joined doTERRA with someone who had children and used oils with their children so that I knew that they understood and they could relate to me and my goals with using oils with my kids. Starting out with a basic kit is usually the way to go because there are essential oils that take care of a wide variety of issues. For us it was the immune boosting oils and oils to help with ailments. Every family is different and so this is something I love helping other families with, focusing on what the goals are and then figuring out a starting place so that a routine can begin and solutions are found. Do you have any recipes you can share? There are a ton of recipes that you can find on the internet, but its important to understand that there is a science to mixing oils. doTERRA does have pre made blends which I love because it takes the guesswork out. Recipes for diffusing can be so beneficial in the home for creating the aroma that you would like. A big benefit to us has also been using certain oils during the night so the kids sleep better! One recipe that has changed our lives was the immune boosting blend using only doTERRA oils because of the quality and achieving the therapeutic benefits. This blend is using Frankincense, Lemon, Oregano, OnGuard, and melaleuca. A great way to remember it is by using the acronym FLOOM! How can you tell a lower quality oil from a high better quality sourced oil? Quality to me is the most crucial aspect when choosing where to get your oils from. I cannot stress this enough because of the fact that essential oils are on the rise and companies are creating their own line of oils because people are wanting to use them. With that said, the FDA does not regulate the essential oil world so the labeling unfortunately, we cannot trust. Anyone can put 100% pure or natural on a bottle, however, we need to look into how the essential oil was extracted. Companies use synthetics and alcohols many times to extract oils and they also adulterate them by including synthetic versions of the constituents and different carrier oil. This does not need to be included on a label which is why research is crucial. Another major piece to quality is understanding that pure oils does not mean quality. Quality comes from sourcing. When we are sourcing oils from the indigenous region where that plant grows abundantly and naturally it is completely different. The rain, soil, sun, climate, etc all impact the quality of a plant and in turn what we are getting when we produce the essential oil. doTERRA sources their oils from over 50 different countries around the world and they focus on cultivating relationships with the farmers and growers. This to me is impacting these regions in so many ways in terms of their economy. They not only are working together to create a high quality oil, but doterra has made a difference in their living environment. For example, putting in waterways so that families don’t have to walk 3 miles for fresh water every day, building clinics and schools. The philanthropic piece to all of this is what touches my heart and knowing that when I am purchasing a specific oil I am contributing to this difference.
